The return of Channel 4's SAS: Who Dares Wins brings with it, a whole host of new recruits who will take on the biggest challenge of their lives. 20 ordinary men and women will enter Jungle Hell, in Thung Ui, North Vietnam, to attempt to complete the punishing jungle phase of SAS selection.
People from all over the UK are headed to the Vietnamese jungle. They will be led by an elite team of ex-special forces operators from the UK and US.
Among those in the cast is a professional wrestler from Swansea. Here’s what Stevie, who goes by the stage name of Steve Starr, had to say about taking part.

“I wanted to test myself in situations completely out of my comfort zone,” says Stevie of joining the show, “I’m a bit stuck in my ways so wanted to prove to myself I could take on new challenges and not chicken out.”
Stevie has been wrestling for 14 years and was once signed to the WWE in America. The 38-year-old wrestled WWE Superstar Roman Reigns on WWE TV under the name Gavin Reid, where he lost to the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion in two minutes.
He also recently performed as a stunt man in a Marvel film and has said that he is keen to do more work on the big screen. When not in the ring, Stevie works on the door at a cocktail bar.
On what he hoped to get out of SAS: Who Dares Wins, Stevie says: “I’ve always struggled with self-confidence, so to come away after facing my fears in a situation with 20 strangers would be a big accomplishment for me. So coming away with a new self-belief was the most important to me.” He adds that working on the series “exceeded expectations” and the experience was harder than he’d ever imagined.
Summarising the experience as a whole, Stevie says: “It was a once In a lifetime experience that I will never ever forget. I’m so lucky I got to be a part of it – it was one of the best times of my life and I took away so many positive memories.”
Stevie grew up in Swansea and lives with his dad. His parents split up when Stevie was a child, and he hasn’t spoken to his Mum for 18 years. Although Stevie adopts a loud outgoing persona when wrestling, he’s actually a shy person.
Catch him on SAS: Who Dares Wins at 9pm on Channel 4 on Monday, January 23. For more TV and showbiz stories, subscribe to our newsletter here.
