A Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Egyptian media personality Sarah Khalifa to death by hanging in a major case involving the alleged organised import, manufacture and trafficking of synthetic narcotics.

The ruling, issued in Cairo on Saturday after a months-long trial of 28 defendants, is not final, and Khalifa's lawyer has said he will appeal, according to Ahram Online.
