Sarah Everard murderer Wayne Couzens charged with four counts of indecent exposure

Sarah Everard's murderer Wayne Couzens has been charged with four counts of indecent exposure.

Couzens, 49, is currently serving a life sentence in prison for the rape and murder of Sarah in March 2021.

The former Met Police officer is charged with four offences that took place before Sarah Everard’s abduction and murder in January and February of last year.

Rosemary Ainslie, Head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said: “Following a referral of evidence by the Metropolitan Police, the CPS has authorised four charges of indecent exposure against Wayne Couzens.

“The four alleged offences took place between January and February 2021.

“He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 13 April.

“The function of the CPS is not to decide whether a person is guilty of a criminal offence, but to make fair, independent and objective assessments about whether it is appropriate to present charges to a court to consider.

“Criminal proceedings are active and nothing should be published that could jeopardise the defendant's right to a fair trial.”

The charges are that Couzens "intentionally exposed his genitals intending that someone would see them and be caused alarm and distress", the Mirror UK reports.

The charge comes just weeks after the one year anniversary of 33-year-old Sarah Everard’s death by Couzens on March 3. Sarah was kidnapped, raped and murdered in south London as she walked home from seeing a friend.

He was given a whole-life term after pleading guilty in October, and was moved from Belmarsh to Frankland just before Christmas.

The Mirror UK previously reported that he had been segregated on a wing for vulnerable inmates.

He was taken to hospital on his third day in custody, after being found unconscious in a cell at Wandsworth police station following a suicide attempt while he was awaiting trial.

He is said to have refused food and threatened to go on a hunger strike in protest at his supposed harsh treatment at the jail.
