Santiago Munoz on 'beautiful moment' after being given standing ovation by Newcastle United fans

Santiago Munoz says he enjoyed a "beautiful moment" after scoring his first goal at St James' Park in last night's seven-goal thriller for Newcastle United's Under-23s. The Mexican youth international headed home Joe Oliver's cross to mark his Toon bow in style and spark a dramatic comeback against West Bromwich Albion.

Munoz put in a real shift after and after shaking off hamstring problems that hampered the early days of his loan move from Santos Laguna he looked in fine fettle against the Baggies. Munoz caught up with Chronicle Live after the game with the number 10's progress keenly followed by fans since arriving from Mexico last autumn.

Reflecting on his first goal for the club, Munoz told Chronicle Live: "I'm very happy with it all, for the team and for me personally. "I am happy to get a goal.

"I had to be patient. "I had an injury when I started here but right now I am getting fit and up to my level.

"The team and all the coaches are helping me. "So I am very happy to be here, my first game at St James' Park was just beautiful.

"I am thankful for the support and the goal."

Munoz played 64 minutes of the 4-3 win over West Bromwich Albion as Josh Scott, Nathan Carlyon and Niall Brookwell also notched on Tyneside. The crowd of 793 fans rose to their feet to applaud the Texas-born player off.

Munoz said: "The supporters clapped me off and I was thankful for that. "They came to support us and for them, we gave them the win.

"It's been a good experience so far, to get to know the first team players who are Premier League level. "I am preparing to get to my best level and wait for my opportunity."
