The storehouse you did not choose
Imagine a warehouse the size of every life you have ever lived. Every action, every intention, every moment of cruelty or tenderness across countless births, all of it compressed and stored. In the Vedanta tradition, this is sanchita karma. The full account. You cannot see it. You cannot audit it. You carry it the way a river carries the memory of every source that fed it, without knowing the names of those springs. This is the karma that makes certain fears arrive without cause. Why some people are born into abundance and others into deprivation that no single lifetime of choices could explain. Sanchita is not punishment. It is accumulation, the way sediment is not the river's fault but is still the river's floor. The Chandogya Upanishad describes the soul's movement through lives as shaped by what it has desired and done. Sanchita is the full weight of that movement, most of which will never activate in this birth. It sits in reserve.
