San Francisco spirits company set to move headquarters, add distillery to Lexington

San Francisco-based spirits company Bespoken Spirits announced its intentions to move its headquarters and manufacturing facilities to Lexington Thursday. It’s also adding a distillery to their in-house process as part of the move.

The move was announced during Gov. Andy Beshear’s regular Team Kentucky briefing.

“Bespoken is a welcome addition to the Lexington community and will continue to solidify Kentucky as the world's leading producer of bourbon,” Beshear said. “I want to thank company leaders for their vision to grow in Kentucky and I look forward to their continued success in the Commonwealth.”

Scott Savage is the company’s vice president of research, development and production. The Lexington native helped announce the move during the governor’s regular media briefing Thursday.

“Not a lot of people are aware but there's a high tech Silicon Valley company right downtown with over 70 people,” Savage said. “And the founder of that company is now a VC based in California. And he called me and said, ‘Scott, I know you have a job already but would you be interested in building a distillery for me in Kentucky?’ and I said ‘Yes, no hesitation whatsoever.’”

The governor’s office says the move includes an investment of more than three million dollars and will create 16 high-wage jobs at more than $70 an hour. It’s set to open in 2024.
