Kyle Shanahan informed reporters that 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead suffered a sprained MCL in practice, and is expected to be out a “few weeks.” He also told the media that the injury is not considered serious.
Armstead has started every game for the 49ers in each of the past four seasons. Back in 2019 he recorded ten sacks, which remains his career-high. Last season, Armstead posted six sacks as the 49ers reached the NFC Championship game.

Pass rush is expected to be a strength in San Francisco this season, with Armstead part of what could be a tough defensive front to handle. Nick Bosa returned from his own injury to start all 17 games for the 49ers last season, posting 15.5 sacks along with a career-best 21 tackles for a loss. San Francisco also added pass rusher Drake Jackson in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft.
