San Diego State Recap: Aztecs Secure Victory Against Spartans, 72-62.

San Diego State wins handsomely in Northern California.
The San Diego State Aztecs (14-6, 6-3 MW) secured an away game by beating the last-place San Jose State Spartans (7-16, 0-11 MW). In a game where the Aztecs never fell behind, senior Matt Bradley led all scorers with a season-high 28 points, giving him a total of 81 points in his last three games.
Vegas odds had the Aztecs winning by at least 17 points, but the Spartans showed the Aztecs why they lead the league in 3-pointers made despite their record. Each starter made at least one shot from downtown, and freshman Myron Amey Jr made 3-of-6. The San Jose State freshman ended the game with 23 points and 12 rebounds, recording his first career double-double.
Matt Bradley staying hot is an understatement of the accomplishment Wednesday night because no other Aztec broke double-digits in scoring. Multiple players had eight points and the starters combined for 25 points, shooting 9-of-27 from the floor.

“Matt Bradley is unstoppable,” spoke Coach Brian Dutcher to media post-game. “He is shooting the transition three and he is driving to the basket. Matt is playing great basketball.”
San Diego State’s fourth-ranked defense was on display early. The Spartans did not score until the 14:11 mark of the first half and made eight field goal attempts. At the 9:10 mark, the Aztecs were up 15 points, but the Aztecs did not capitalize on their defensive efforts and let the first half end at 28-22.

Brian Dutcher’s team allowed San Jose State to hang around in the second half, giving up 40 points on 46.4% from the field, 15 of those points from deep. Spartan and San Diego-area native Trey Anderson made a three-pointer at the 17:47 mark, cutting the lead to four points and keeping his team within striking distance. Despite the Aztecs leading as much as 14 points midway through the second half, Tim Miles’ squad forced fouls and made perimeter jumpers to get it as close as seven.
On the efforts of their senior, San Diego State returns home with a double-digit conference victory and confidence going into the rest of February against the top teams in the conference.
