One-time Doctor Who actor Samuel West is eager to bring back the classic Time Lord villain Morbius to face Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor. West, who has voiced Morbius since 2008, made his Doctor Who debut in the 1993 Children In Need special Dimensions In Time as Cyrian, companion to The Rani.
West will reprise his role in Big Finish's Dark Gallifrey: Morbius in April. He expressed his desire to play Morbius on screen and praised Gatwa's casting, hoping for a chance to work with him.
While Morbius hasn't appeared in the revival era, his legacy has been carried through key stories. The character's influence was seen in the Eighth Doctor's Time War regeneration and the Twelfth Doctor's return to Gallifrey.
With the Sisterhood of Karn and pre-Hartnell Doctors playing significant roles in the current Doctor Who era, now could be the perfect time to reintroduce Morbius. Gatwa's era is less lore-heavy, making it accessible to new viewers.
Morbius, a prime example of Time Lord corruption, showcases the darker side of the Doctor's species. Alongside other iconic Time Lord villains like The Master and Rassilon, Morbius adds depth to the series by exploring the consequences of power.
Doctor Who season 14 returns on May 10 for international audiences on Disney+ and on BBC iPlayer on May 11 with a two-episode premiere.
