Samsung Recalls Electric Stoves Due To Fire Hazard Concerns

Samsung Reveals 2024 AI Home Appliances at ‘Welcome to BESPOKE AI’ Event

Samsung has issued a recall for certain models of its electric stoves after identifying a potential fire hazard associated with the front-mounted knobs. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has collaborated with Samsung Electronics America Inc. to announce a voluntary recall for specific slide-in electric range models with front-mounted knobs.

More than a million units of the affected ranges have been sold, with over 300 reports of unintentional activation of the front-mounted knobs by humans or pets since 2013. The CPSC has reported approximately 250 fires involving these ranges, resulting in at least 18 incidents of extensive property damage. Additionally, there have been around 40 injuries, with eight cases requiring medical attention, and seven fires leading to pet fatalities.

The model numbers of the recalled stoves can be found on the inside upper left corner of the oven door or inside the storage bin located at the bottom of the oven. These products, manufactured in Thailand, were sold at various retailers nationwide and online at Samsung.com between May 2013 and August 2024, priced between $1,250 and $3,050.

Consumers are advised to contact Samsung promptly to receive a free set of knob locks or covers compatible with their specific model of electric slide-in range. These safety accessories are available at no cost to consumers, irrespective of the warranty status of their appliance.

While consumers can continue using the affected ranges, Samsung recommends taking precautions such as never leaving items on the stove top when not in use, keeping children and pets away from range knobs, and ensuring that the knobs are properly turned off after cooking. For those with Wi-Fi enabled ranges, enabling “Cooktop On” notifications on the Samsung SmartThings app can provide alerts when a cooktop burner is activated.

For further information or to request free knob locks, consumers can contact Samsung's toll-free number at 833-775-0120 during business hours, send an email to [email protected], or visit samsung.com/us/support/range-knob-kit.
