Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: leaked video reveals key details months before launch

The edges of the leaked Galaxy S25 Ultra are much rounder compared with its pointy predecessor - (1gzlim3 / Reddit)

It wouldn’t be a proper smartphone launch without a juicy leak or two spoiling the surprise.

We’re not just talking about suspicious renders, 3D mock-ups, or a list of features. No, we mean the real deal: the phone itself, casually showing up in someone’s hands before it’s even announced.

We saw it happen with Google’s first foldable, the Pixel Fold, which was spotted on the New York subway several months before its release. More recently, Huawei’s former CEO Richard Yu was snapped casually using the firm’s innovative tri-folding phone on a flight over a month before its launch.

Now, it’s the turn of an industry giant. Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, has seemingly been leaked in a video doing the rounds on social media. You can watch the video below.

The top half of the phone can be seen in the clip, with someone visibly moving it around to show the front and the back.

Based on this leak, all the talk about the phone having a curvier look was true. The phone in the video visibly has more rounded corners than its predecessor’s rigid right angles.

So, if you weren’t a fan of the S24 Ultra’s design, this may prompt you to consider trading it in for the new model next year.

Another dead giveaway is the five individual camera bumps on the back of the phone, one for each of its four cameras, with an autofocus sensor thrown on top. This three-two setup has been a defining trait on Ultra models since the S22 Ultra when Samsung did away with the rectangular camera module of yore.

While many social media users were sceptical about the video, jokingly referring to it as the “Scamsung”, reputable leaker Ice Universe believes it’s real. “Obviously S25 Ultra,” he said on X (formerly Twitter).

When is the Samsung Galaxy 25 Ultra release date?

Either way, we’ll have our answer soon. Samsung is poised to reveal the new model as soon as January 22, 2025, at its annual Unpacked event devoted to the S25 range.

The high-end phone is expected to feature a 6.9-inch OLED screen to rival the iPhone 16 Pro Max, with 2,600 nits of brightness (unchanged from the S24 Ultra) and a smooth 120hz variable refresh rate.

It’s odds on to pack the new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and the same 5,000 mAh battery. As for those cameras, the ultra-wide lens may jump from 12MP to 50MP, with the other snappers staying the same.

This isn’t the first time a Samsung phone has been spotted in the wild early. The Korean firm has faced similar leaks since the days of the Galaxy S7.
