Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra price revealed — and it's surprisingly high

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra hands-on.

If you're planning on getting the Galaxy S24 Ultra, get ready to pay more than you would for any device that doesn't fold in two. Samsung introduced its new Samsung Galaxy S24 lineup, and it includes a price hike for the Ultra model at the top of the lineup.

Specifically, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will start at $1,299. That's $100 more than the Galaxy S23 Ultra cost. It's also $100 more than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which saw a price hike of its own last fall.

There's some good news about pricing — the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus have the same starting price as last year's models, costing $799 and $999, respectively.

Samsung's new pricing matches a leak that appeared just before today's Galaxy Unpacked event. A post on X from Roland Quandt showed the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra. That included news about the price hike.

Samsung seems to be doing what it can to make the $1,299 phone a better value than its higher price might suggest. It's now offering seven years of software support for its phones, up from four years with last year's Galaxy lineup. In addition, the base model of the Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with 256GB of storage. A Galaxy S24 preorder promotion lets you upgrade to the next level of storage — 512GB in the case of the Ultra — for the cost of the lower storage tier.

We'll have more information about pricing — including what the phone costs in the U.K., Australia and elsewhere and how much you'll pay for each storage tier — as the Galaxy Unpacked event continues.
