The Brit supported him by sitting front row at Fashion Week earlier this month.
They were out and about in the city after stranger has branded the star "demonic" and "evil" while walking in Central Park in a shocking video.
The singer was walking along minding their own business while a video shows an unidentified stranger shouting at them.
Sam came under scrutiny since their performances at the Grammys and Brit Awards which have received complaints.
The video that has now emerged, shows a woman screaming as Sam can be seen minding their own business walking through Central Park.
She shouts: "Sam Smith belongs in hell, you demonic, twisted, sick b****d."
The person then yells "You sick motherf****r Sam Smith, you’re evil."
Another person then joins in towards the end of the video, shouting about Illuminati before the video then cuts off.
Sam did not respond to the heckles and continued walking.
However, at one point they appeared to also be filming the person who was shouting at them.
Singing their song Unholy at the Grammys alongside Kim Petras, the performance featured a devil theme, with one person branding it as "satanic".
TMZ reported that they have obtained 18 complaints filed with the Federal Communications Commission following the event.
Some complaints compared the performance to devil worship, with one person saying they were going to cancel their TV service.
Some said it was anti-Christian and had the potential to "increase violence against Christians".
