Sam Smith makes style statement at BRIT Awards as they wear latex, balloon-like outfit

Sam Smith has faced criticism in recent weeks for their fashion choices but they appeared to want all eyes on them at the BRIT Awards on Saturday night.

The hitmaker was nominated for two awards this year, one nomination for Best Pop/R&B Act and a second for Song Of The Year for their hit Unholy featuring Kim Petras.

But the star turned heads in a rather extravagant outfit before taking their seat at the glitzy event alongside the likes of Lizzo, Harry Styles and Wet Leg.

Sam, 30, recently appeared at the Grammy's with Kim Petras where their performance kicked up a fuss but it doesn't seem as though it's bothered them too much.

Stepping out, the Dancing with a Stranger singer wore a latex outfit which featured a rather high neck, sleeves and legs which appeared to be overinflated and a zip going up the front of his all-in-one look.

The star opted to rock a pair of heeled boots and a pair of tiny earrings as they posed for photographs on the red carpet before making their way into the main arena area.

Both Sam and Kim are set to take to the stage to perform Unholy, just six days after delivering a killer performance at the Grammy's.

However, some didn't enjoy the performance with a string of odd complaints being filed in the days after the glamourous event held at the Crypto.com arena in Downtown Los Angeles.

TMZ reported that they have obtained 18 complaints filed with the Federal Communications Commission following the event.

Some complaints compared the performance to devil worship, with one person saying they were going to cancel their TV service.

While others said it was anti-Christian and had the potential to "increase violence against Christians".

This year's BRIT Awards are being held for the first time on a Saturday but have not been without their own controversy due to female artists being snubbed from the gender-neutral Artist Of The Year category.

Fans were outraged to discover the category - won by Adele in 2022 - featured only male acts, with Harry, rapper Central Cee, DJ Fred Again..., and pop singers George Ezra and Stormzy.

Just 17.6% of artists originally shortlisted last year for Artist of the Year 2023 were women, and included Mabel, Florence and the Machine, Charli XCX, Becky Hill and Rina Sawayama - but none of the talented female stars made the final cut when the final nominations were announced on January 12.
