Sam Ryder predicts Eurovision UK host city for 2023 and it's bad news for Newcastle

Sam Ryder has given his prediction on who will get to hair the Eurovision Song Contest next year and his verdict is bad news for Newcastle.

It’s down to TikTok star Sam’s exploits in Turin in May that the UK is being given the opportunity to stage the world famous event in 2023. He finished second to Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra with his anthemic song Spaceman, and, after topping the jury vote, was beaten to victory after the public flee vote was factored in.

However, given the conflict that has gone in Ukraine this year, it has been decided that the war torn country won’t host Eurovision next year and instead, the BBC will take it on for the UK.

There was great excitement across seven cities at the end of last week when the short list of potential host cities was announced. Newcastle made the cut, along with Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield and now Sam has his his say on who he thinks will get the gig.

Bookies have been tipping Glasgow since before the final contenders were even confirmed and Sam agrees with them.

In an interview with Metro Radio this week to promote his new single Somebody, Sam said: “I mean I’d be happy with it anywhere, but Manchester seems like a good bet, or Glasgow. They’re the ones that I think it could go to.”

Sam was also quizzed on if he will get to perform at next year’s contest, to which he replied: “I have no idea…I hope so, I’m not going to be coy about it. Please let me do something! I’ll sweep, I’ll give the tickets out. I just want to see it, it’s just going to be so amazing, what an incredible experience for like a Eurovision fan!“
