Sam Lammers claims he's had 'no contact' from Rangers ahead of Utrecht transfer talks

Sam Lammers has claimed he has had no contact from Rangers since joining FC Utrecht on loan.

The Ibrox forward was shipped out to the Eredivisie club in January having struggled to find form in the Scottish Premiership.

Lammers, 27, has thrived back in his homeland netting 11 times since joining Utrecht - nine times more than he managed to register for Rangers this term.

And his form has led to growing expectation Utrecht will bid to sign the striker in the summer with the club prepared to negotiate a deal with Rangers.

Lammers, however, admitted he will first hold talks with Rangers chiefs over his future in Glasgow - even if he admitted he hasn't heard from Ibrox colleagues since departing on loan.

He told De Telegraaf: "I am under contract with them and I will be the first to talk to them.

"I haven't really had any contact with Rangers in the last six months.

"We will have conversations after this season.”

Lammers is well aware that Utrecht are keen to make his deal permanent but refused to delve into his future as he admitted: "I don't know what happens next."

"I don't want to worry about that right now," said Lammers to the Dutch outlet. "The only thing I can say about it is that FC Utrecht has indicated that it wants to continue with me longer. I don't know what happens next.

"That will all only happen after these matches, because I don't want to do anything that could cause me to lose focus.

"The most important games of the season are coming and I hope to be able to score goals in them too.”

FC Utrecht sporting director Jordy Zuidam previously confirmed the club are "fully committed" to signing Lammers to a permanent deal.

"It's clear Sam is above our salary cap. But we reached an agreement with Rangers that was acceptable to us," said Zuidam. "Now we have to find a way with Sam and his club to keep him.

"We are fully committed to signing Sam permanently. He is a very important member of our team. We did everything we could to bring him here on loan and we will do everything possible to bring him here on a permanent deal.

"We have spoken to him several times and he is really a boy who is obsessed with football. He has said that he wants to finish the season, but is definitely considering it.

"We will look for all possibilities to keep him. I hope that is enough."

Lammers netted again for Utrecht last night in a 3-1 win over Sparta Rotterdam. The striker scored his side's second as he jinked through defenders before expertly curling into the bottom corner.
