Australia’s favourite sports person and Matildas legend Sam Kerr has announced that she and her fiancé Kristie Mewis are expecting a baby together, and you already know that kid is going to become a football superstar.
In a post to Instagram on Monday night, your favourite footballer’s favourite footballer shared a cute greyscale photograph of her and Mewis in a photo-booth having a smooch and holding a sonogram.
“Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!” the Matildas legend posted.
In the adorable announcement post, Mewis can be seen pressing her stomach toward the camera while Kerr smiles happily with her fellow mum-to-be.
The comments were quickly flooded with words of support and love from fans and fellow footballers who were ecstatic at the announcement.
“Congrats!” wrote Mary Fowler, as well as the official Matildas Instagram account.
“I’m so happy for you guys, congratulations,” said one of Kerr’s fellow Chelsea players, Angie Beever-Jones.
“Let me be the first to say the baby will represent Australia in football,” one fan commented.
Kerr and Mewis announced their engagement in a lowkey way last November, after speculation the pair had gotten engaged in September 2023.
I’m still holding out for an invite to the wedding, and now I’ll be offering some sort of extravagant gift as a way of scoring an invite to the baby shower.
Massive congrats to Sam and Kristie! And an even bigger congrats to the future of Australian football, as our new Matildas captain is currently gestating.
