Sam Johnstone reveals Roy Hodgson’s Tottenham message after Crystal Palace defeat

Sam Johnstone has revealed Roy Hodgson’s message following Crystal Palace’s loss to Tottenham.

The Eagles were beaten in north London thanks to Harry Kane’s header on the stroke of half-time.

Johnstone made a smart save to beat away Porro’s deflected effort, but too often the home side were wasteful in the Palace half as the final pass, cross or shot was wayward and promising positions led to nothing.

Palace huffed and puffed, but succumbed to a second defeat in seven games following the return of manager Hodgson to the club, though they are likely now well clear of relegation trouble, having already reached 40 points.

It has been a successful second stint at the club for Hodgson, who is yet to rule out staying at Selhurst Park next season.

“Frustrated not to at least get a draw,” said Johnstone.

“I thought we played well. It’s a tough place to come but we played well and we deserved more out of the game.

“[The manager told us] that this is a club that spends a lot of money. They are a big team. He thought we were the better team and we were unlucky with the score.”
