Sam Heughan told by Outlander author why Jamie Fraser's ghost appeared in episode one

Outlander author Diana Gabaldon told Sam Heughan why Jamie Fraser's ghost appeared in episode one.

Fans of the Starz hit time travelling series have always wondered why the spirit of Sam's character Jamie was seen in the first instalment of the long-running series.

In episode one, Claire Fraser (played by Caitriona Balfe) and her husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) witness a ghost of her future husband watching her in her bedroom from the streets below.

Diana hasn’t revealed to the public yet how Jamie appeared nearly 200 years after his death to seek out Claire.

However, now Claire has told She Knows website that Sam has been filled in by Diana.

Jamie Fraser's ghost appeared in episode one of Outlander (Starz)

Claire said: "So I don't know and I don't really want to know, not in a bad way. I'm somebody who likes to live with mystery, you know.

"I'm happy to wait till Diane is ready to tell me. She's told Sam and I'm trying not to take that personally that I have not been let in on the secret that he has.

"But since it pertains to his character, I'm going to give them a pass.

"But no, I'm I happily live with mystery in my life."

Claire has however revealed one of her favourite episodes in series six is episode eight.

She explained: "It's like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. We get a little bit westerny."
