Sam Heughan has given Outlander fans a three-word summary of the seventh season, which is just weeks away from airing.
The Balmaclellan-born actor, 43, has played Jamie Fraser in the historical fantasy series since 2013, and has given fans a small insight into the next instalment. Speaking on Outlander's penultimate season, he summed it up: "It's XL, it's extended, it's massive".
During a conversation on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Heughan teased that some of the show's biggest mysteries will be explained as well as having plenty of "water cooler moments".
While he couldn't give too much away, he also described the season as a "homecoming" as many fan-favourite characters and actors are set to return.
He continued: "Definitely, a lot of big stuff happens. There's new characters coming in. And there's obviously a lot of people who know that there's returning characters.
"Some of the storylines tie up quite nicely, time travel stuff as well. So we're getting there. And I can't wait to be able to tell the end of the story. I wanted to finish it, I didn't want to just walk away."
Outlander is coming to an end after the eighth season, which is likely to air next year, as Heughan discussed the bittersweet decision.
He told host Josh Horowitz: "We didn't know where we were going to be with it. And we finally came to that decision, that agreement and we obviously have one more to shoot.
"But yeah, at the end of this season seven, suddenly you could feel it on set. Everyone was starting to go 'oh, actually, we're gonna come back and do this one more time and that's it' and it's everyone was getting pretty emotional about it.
"I think it's gonna be a huge change in our lives and also really sad to say goodbye."
