Sam Heughan says it's been a delight working on Outlander after it was announced on Thursday that the fantasy drama would be coming to an end.
However, there will still be an eighth season before cameras stop rolling for good - but it's not yet known when that will be out.
Sam, who plays Jamie Fraser, has took to social media saying: "Season 8, the last and final season!
"So delighted to have the opportunity to finish this epic story and we hope you will come along with us. What a journey. What a story. What fans!!! So excited… can you guess how it ends?
"(But don’t worry, an extended season 7 is coming this year, 16 eps to enjoy!)"
But it's not all bad news because there's going to be a prequel series called 'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' which will look into the lives and relationship of Jamie Fraser's parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie.
That'll be available on LIONSGATE+ in the UK, Australia, Latin America, including Brazil, and across all STARZ platforms in the U.S. and Canada.
Fans have been reacting to Sam's post, with one commenting: "Guess we’re stuck with you for 2 more years then haha"
Another wrote: "We will be with you, Cait and the amazing cast every step along the journey!! You can’t get rid of us that easily!!"
Someone else replied: "It’s wonderful news but also a bit sad because it’s the end of a fantastic journey, and I was not ready. Thank you so much for bringing JAMMF to life. No one could do it better than you. Can’t wait to watch seasons 7 & 8 !! I wish you many more wonderful adventures like Outlander."
A fourth said: "Thank you Sam for being Jamie Fraser!!! Love you!!!"
Outlander seasons 1-6 are available on Starz in the USA and Lionsgate+ via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
