Outlander star Sam Heughan compared shooting the latest instalment of the historical drama to being in a 'post-apocalyptic' world.
The actor, originally from Dumfries, plays Highland warrior Jamie Fraser in Diana Gabaldon's historical fantasy series alongside Irish actress Caitriona Balfe who plays his on-screen wife Claire Fraser.
In a recent interview to promote Outlander series six, the 41-year-old admitted the first few days of shooting felt 'unsettling' amid the long, cold days during Scottish winter.
"We were shooting in winter in Scotland, which is freezing cold, so it was pretty tough, but a really good sense of humuor gets you through it," he told Men's Health.
"The first few days of shooting are kind of unsettling. It feels like you're in this post-apocalyptic world, but to be honest, once you get on set, you just feel so lucky to be able to work and to be kept safe and to hopefully provide some entertainment.
"I was actually shooting [Text for You] as well in London. To be honest, working on that movie and Outlander got me through the pandemic."
The sixth season of Outlander was shot during the pandemic, which is why it consists of a shorter season with only eight episodes - including the 90 minute premiere.
Despite the sad news of a shorter season, Outlander showrunner Matthew B. Roberts confirmed that the seventh season will consist of 16 episodes to make up for it.
Outlander season 6 will premiere on StarzPlay in the UK on Sunday 6 March 2022.
