Melbourne Stars wicketkeeper Sam Harper has been named the Big Bash League player of the tournament, continuing his stellar white-ball summer.

The 29-year-old has whacked 371 runs at an average of 61.83 at a strike rate of 155 after 10 regular-season games.

It included an unbeaten 110 off 60 deliveries in a Boxing Day winning run chase against the Sydney Sixers and an 84 not out from 51 in the Melbourne derby.

In the 3-2-1 umpire-adjudicated award, Harper tallied 16 votes, followed by Strikers allrounder Liam Scott (15) and Thunder veteran David Warner (15).

Scott has averaged 51.66 with the bat this season and picked up five wickets at an economy of 7.89.

Despite the Thunders' poor campaign, 39-year-old Warner topped the run chart this season with 433 at an average of 86.60, including two centuries.

Stars import Tom Curran (14) and Sixers allrounder Jack Edwards (14) were next best.

Harper has also impressed for Victoria in the One Day Cup and sits fourth on the run-scoring chart after five games with 253 runs at an average of 50.60 and a 108 strike rate.

Harper, who said he has thrown his hat into the ring for a few 20-over league auctions, credited a simplification of his game.

"Just trying to stay really still. Have a still base and still head. A bit less funky and hopefully a bit more reliable," he told FoxCricket.

He said he wasn't contemplating higher honours.

"There are a lot of runs to be had before that would become a live conversation," Harper said.

"In the past there have been some good innings and a lot of times I've missed out with some frantic batting.

"Hopefully I can just keep being a consistent player for the Stars and Victoria, I've always got aspirations to be the best cricketer I can be."

The team of the tournament will be announced on Thursday.
