Sam Fender wowed by magician Chris Cross backstage after his Newcastle gig

Sam Fender was left wowed by magician Chris Cross after he performed a number of mind-bending tricks for him and his band after his sell-out gig in Newcastle.

The local legend performed back-to-back shows at Newcastle's Utilita Arena as his Seventeen Going Under tour came to an end this week. Geordie anthem Local Hero filled the air at his sell-out shows as flags from Newcastle United favourites Wor Flags heralded Sam's arrival on his home turf.

And it seems the lively atmosphere continued off-stage as well after Geordie magician Chris Cross kept Sam and his band entertained backstage. Chris performed a number of tricks for Sam who called him a "legend" and said he was a "top boy in his field" after he was left bewildered by what he saw.

During one baffling trick, Sam wrote 'Tiger Woods' on a playing card which he returned to the pack but then that same card somehow made its way onto Chris' head. Another trick saw a pack of cards magically transform into a chunk of ice - much to everyone's confusion.

Chris, who has entertained the likes of Boy George, Mike Tyson, and even NUFC legend Alan Shearer, said it was an honour to perform for Sam and his band and said it was "really good fun".

He said: "Sam is a really nice lad, he's really down to Earth. We're both local lads doing what we do. He's good at what he does and I'm good at what I do so it was nice to get together and just have a good time.

"It was the last night of his Seventeen Going Under tour so it was just a celebration. It was really good fun and everyone was just happy to be there so it was great to spread a bit of magic. Everyone was so nice."

Chris bought a guitar for £20 on Facebook marketplace to use in one of his tricks but accidentally left it there after his performance. The next day he was shocked to hear that Sam had actually played his guitar.

He explained: "I left my guitar and when I went back the next day everyone was saying that Sam was using it and was playing some American blues on it. I bought it for £20 on Facebook marketplace and now Sam Fender was playing it! I messaged the guy who I bought it off and he just said: 'That's mint!' It was a really, really good night."

Sam's gigs attracted the likes of Newcastle United stars Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn and actor Robson Green and fans are now calling for the Brit winner to up the ante with a massive gig at St James' Park. Sam took to social media to thank his fans who came to his shows saying: "What a tour".
