Sam Darnold is on pace for a record-setting year for the Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings could not have expected this type of production from Sam Darnold when they signed him in free agency this offseason. Both he and the Vikings have been a match made in football heaven on and off the field.

Sam Darnold’s arrival in Minnesota has put him on pace for a career year and potentially a record-setting one.

After Sunday’s one-sided win over the Atlanta Falcons, Darnold now sits with a 68.4% completion percentage, 3,493 passing yards, and 29 touchdowns. With those numbers, he is on pace to finish with 4,567 passing yards and 37 touchdowns.

Those numbers are in contention to rank first all-time for passing yards in a season. Daunte Culpepper’s record of 4.717 yards has been held since the 2004 season. He would surpass what Culpepper did in terms of passing touchdowns, which was 33, and his franchise record.

Whether he breaks both records or just one, what matters is the Vikings are 11-2 and in prime position to take the lead in the NFC North if the Lions slip in these last four games.
