Salford Quays residents have been left confused after signs for 'Trafford' appeared on their streets.
The signs, some of which simply say 'Trafford', were installed recently in some parts of Salford. But while residents have since found out they have been put up for the upcoming Women's Euros tournament, they still said more clarity was needed so people did not think the city was 'moving boroughs'.
Dale Langford, who spotted the signs, was shocked to see the welcoming banners for Trafford on his lunchtime walk.
“I saw this Trafford banner on my lunchtime walk around the Quays and it just amused me to see it in such a prominent location,” he said. “I don't think there's any appetite to change our name to Trafford Quays or move boroughs.”

Although the bypassers admit that there are other signs with more detail on them around the Euros, they believe these do not instantly suggest that they are related. But Salford City Council said that with Old Trafford being a host venue for the Euros, they dressed the signs as such for ‘branding opportunities’.
A spokesman for Salford City Council said: “These banners are all temporary ones linked to the Women’s Euro’s Football tournament. Trafford is a host venue and so they have access to the tournament branding opportunities and this includes site dressing like this.
“The first match of the tournament is at Old Trafford. Each host venue across the country will have access to similar branding opportunities and site dressing and these will be up throughout the run up to the tournament and throughout its duration and then will come down.”
The first match of the tournament will be at Old Trafford, not far from Salford Quays, on July 6 and will feature England against Austria.
