Sale agreed for old South West College Fairview campus in Enniskillen

An agreement has been reached over the sale of the old Fairview campus of the South West College in Enniskillen.

The prominent building in the Co Fermanagh town centre was put up for sale last year after the opening of the college’s new Erne campus on the Cornagrade Road.

A sale has been agreed to purchase the building from the college, and it is understood the group proposing to buy the site includes members of a well-established family business in the Co Fermanagh town.

The 125,000 square foot site includes two listed buildings, a former jail and gymnasium block, and an old library and music hall.

The Fairview campus closed in 2021 after 50 years, with the new Erne campus widely recognised as one of the world’s most prestigious educational buildings as a result of its design and sustainability credentials.

While the plans for the old site are not yet known, the estate agent which listed the property said its potential uses may include a hotel, retail, office, leisure and residential.

Since it opened in 1971, Fairview has been an iconic feature of the Enniskillen skyline.

Although many of the buildings and communities surrounding the campus have witnessed changes over the years, Fairview has been a constant focal point and a strong pillar for the East End of the town since.

Noelle McAloon said it was a positive step for the town that a sale has been agreed for the site

“We are delighted to hear that a sale has been agreed for it to be redeveloped as there is a chance that it was just going to sit there for years, so it’s good to see that there is a buyer there for it,” Noelle said.
