To mark its 10th anniversary, Sala Sudasiri Sobha will present "A Poetic Afternoon With Polish Art Songs", a piano duo recital by Justyna Khil (soprano) and Rozalia Kierc (piano), on Sunday at 4pm.
The programme will bring a broad palette of emotions and styles to get the audiences to dive into the world of the finest examples of German and Polish art songs by composers such as Richard Strauss, Carl Maria von Weber, Karol Szymanowski, Mieczysław Karłowicz, Aleksandra Brejza and Simon Laks -- with texts of great Polish poets including Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer and Czesław Jankowski.
The afternoon will start with 8 Gedichte Aus "Letzte Blätter", Op 10 (Eight Songs From The Last Pages Op 10) composed by Strauss when he was only 21.
Featured on the repertoire of great pieces by Polish composers will be Roxana's Song, a pivotal aria in the second act of Szymanowski's opera King Roger, which premiered in 1926 and was loosely inspired by the life of the titular monarch who reigned in 12th-century Sicily.
The concert will conclude with Pięć Pieśni Do Słów Juliana Tuwima (Five Songs On Poems By Julian Tuwim), an extraordinary example of a modern Polish song cycle composed by Laks.
Both Khil and Kierc graduated from the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Poland where they won the AMFN Special Prize. Khil has performed recitals, chamber and oratorio concerts on numerous stages in Poland and abroad.
Kierc achieved considerable artistic success in international competitions, winning over 21 prizes for her talents and is featured regularly at music festivals in Europe.
