Saints quarterback Derek Carr will start Sunday against the Buccaneers while still dealing with a sprained acromioclavicular (AC) joint, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Carr suffered the injury in the third quarter of New Orleans’s loss to the Packers last weekend when he was wrapped up and thrown down hard by Green Bay’s Rashan Gary. Coach Dennis Allen said the Saints “dodged a bullet” Monday in regards to the significance of the injury and Carr was announced as week to week.
But the signal-caller appears set to tough it out and will give it a go in the divisional matchup. The offense has struggled to start the season with Carr only passing for 636 yards and two touchdowns along with two interceptions, but the team will get back Alvin Kamara on Sunday as well.
Kamara served a three-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy after pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge for his role in a 2022 Las Vegas brawl. With the Saints getting back their star running back to lift the burden, Carr and the offense should be poised for a bounce back matchup.
Kick off between the 2–1 squads is set for 1 p.m. ET on Fox.
