“Thursday Night Football” features an NFC South duel in Week 5 between the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With these two being divisional opponents, the New Orleans Saints and their fans should be glued to their screens.
An Atlanta win would further muddy the top of the divisional standings. Saying root for the Falcons doesn’t feel right, so let’s root for a Buccaneers loss. That would benefit the Saints.
It’s always important to remember the season is young, but the Saints face the risk of falling behind by a couple of games at the end of the week.
The Saints have a difficult game versus the Kansas City Chiefs on “Monday Night Football.” That isn’t necessarily the best game when looking to stop a two game slide.
Thursday’s outcome means more if the Saints lose, but the benefit is similar either way. You want to keep the Buccaneers from getting a two game lead on you. The Saints get the chance to handle business against the Buccaneers in Week 6.
If you enter that game only one behind, you get the chance to tie and pass Tampa Bay in the standings.
If you’re behind Tampa Bay by two games entering Week 6, this immediately feels like a must win. The worst case scenario gets worse.
The whole premise is a bit forward thinking. The point is, however, you want the Buccaneers to lose, so everyone is closer in record moving forward.
