Saints coach Dennis Allen appealed a $100,000 fine he was given by the NFL and won. Now he has chosen to donate the money to charity.
Allen was fined along with defensive end Cameron Jordan, defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen and the Saints organization after Jordan was suspected of faking an injury on Dec. 5 against the Buccaneers. The league initially assessed a total of $550,000 in fines in regard to the incident.
However, the fines were rescinded after Jordan was able to prove he did indeed have a foot injury. With their money back in hand, Allen and his wife, Alisson, decided to give the $100,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank in New Orleans.
“It all started when we got the fine letters from the league,” Allen said, via the Saints’ website. “We said, ‘We shouldn’t be fined for this; we didn’t do anything wrong.’ And then, it got Alisson and I thinking, ‘Well, we win this appeal. Let’s take that money that we would have given the league, and let’s do something good with that money.’”
Second Harvest Food Bank provides food access, advocacy, education and disaster response to various communities across the state of Louisiana.
