Here’s some well-deserved recognition for Demario Davis. The New Orleans Saints nominated their defensive captain for the the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for the second time in three years (he was previously nominated back in 2020). Davis is one of 32 nominees from around the NFL, with a league press release stating that this award “recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field.”
Cameron Jordan was nominated for this recognition in 2021, and former Saints left tackle Terron Armstead was up for it in 2019. Legendary Saints quarterback Drew Brees shared the award back in 2006 with his old Chargers teammate LaDainian Tomlinson. All of these men have been heavily involved in philanthropic pursuits and community activism away from the field while performing at a high level, and it’s considered one of the highest honors handed out each season. We’ll find out who is this year’s winner at the annual NFL Honors ceremony before Super Bowl LVII in February.
