Saint-Maximin, Lascelles and other headaches as Newcastle United decide who to keep or sell

It’s all set up for a busy summer on the transfer front for Newcastle United, but while the incomings are likely to dominate the headlines, the outgoings could prove to be just as interesting.

While the Magpies spent big on key players in the transfer window ahead of the charge towards Champions League qualification, Eddie Howe has also shown faith in existing players left over from the Mike Ashley era.

Some, such as Jacob Murphy and Fabian Schar, have flourished under new management, but questions still remain over the futures of many of United’s squad players.

Club captain Jamaal Lascelles is one of those names, with talk this week that newly-promoted Luton Town could try to tempt the centre back away from Tyneside. Lascelles managed just 214 minutes of Premier League action last term.

One of the most interesting transfer stories of the summer could surround the future of Allan Saint-Maximin. The popular Frenchman is another who is reportedly attracting interest, and could be one of the Magpies’ most valuable assets should they choose to cash in.

There's also the matter of out-of-contract players, with the club confirming on Wednesday who was set to stay and who would be released. While some supporters will agree with the club's decisions, other may have taken a different direction.
