Sainsbury’s slash Pimm’s to better than half price in time for Jubilee weekend

With street parties and barbecues planned up and down the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, it’s expected that there will be a bottle of Pimm’s or two popped open to celebrate. And Sainsbury’s have slashed the price of their litre bottles by more than 50 per cent.

Shoppers will be able to pick up a bottle of the fruity gin-based beverage for just £10, reduced from £21. The offer makes the litre bottle £6 cheaper than the smaller 70cl bottles.

Pimm’s may not have been on the drinks list for the Queen’s coronation 70 years ago, but it was featured in one of the desserts in the form of strawberry and Pimm’s jelly.

The brand received a Royal Warrant for its closely guarded recipe in 2011, and this year, have designed a limited edition Jubilee label to celebrate the occasion. The new bottle reads 'come reign or shine' and complete with bunting.

Sainsbury’s product description reads: “Pimm's is a classic summer drink. Whether you're watching Wimbledon, hosting a BBQ or having festival fun, sharing a jug of Pimm's makes these moments special. Pimm's has complex fruity notes of bitter-sweet caramelised orange with a fresh citrus and a herbal finish.”

Pimm's was born in London in 1840, when James Pimm created the spirit to aid digestion of oysters. Pimm's went on to be served at Queen Victoria's lunches and has been served at Wimbledon for over 50 years.

The brand recommends serving up a sharing jug of Pimm's by mixing one part Pimm's to three parts lemonade then adding lots of ice and fruit like oranges, strawberries, cucumber and mint.

You can pick up a £10 bottle of Pimm’s to enjoy over the Bank Holiday weekend here - but it will only be available while stocks last.
