Sadness as popular Paisley restaurant will celebrate Hogmanay before closing for good

Paisley town centre has been hit by another “devastating” blow as a second popular restaurant confirms it will close its doors for the last time tomorrow.

Telford’s Bar and Grill confirmed it would see in Hogmanay but cease trading from January 1, 2023.

It comes just two months after the Little Steakhouse said the cost-of-living crisis made trading just too difficult.

The closure of the popular eaterie has been described as “gutting”, while the Stow Brae venue has been described as “amazing” by loyal customers.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, Telford’s said: “As some of you may already know, Telford’s will be closing permanently on January 1, 2023.

“We are truly grateful for all of our lovely customers, especially our fabulous regulars for supporting us.

“We will be serving out pints and smiles as usual until the 31st. There will be plenty of festive fun to be had before then. Keep your eyes peeled for details on our Christmas quiz and our farewell bash on New Year’s Eve.”

The news has been met with dismay by Buddies who heaped praise on the Telford’s team for their good food, drink and warm welcome.

Dozens of locals took to the business’ social media pages to share their disappointment at hearing the news.

One customer wrote on Facebook: “This is another sad blow for Paisley. Such sad news. Cracking dog-friendly pub, enjoyed a few nights here with our pooch!”

A second customer said: “I am very sorry to hear this. I was in with my partner and my mum for a Christmas lunch today. The food was delicious!

“Definitely the best restaurant Christmas lunch I’ve ever had, hands down. Wishing you all the very best for the future.”

Describing the closure as “gutting”, a second customer said: “Gutted to hear this. Best beer garden and staff in Paisley!"

A fourth punter added: “So sorry to hear. We come in from Glasgow to go to Telford’s, we will miss this amazing wee place.”

Established in Paisley several years ago, Telford’s described itself as an “independently owned neighbourhood bar and kitchen”.

It had garnered a reputation as a dog-friendly eaterie and real living wage employer.
