Former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has labelled Sadio Mane ’s imminent switch to Bayern Munich "crazy".
The Senegalese is on the verge of a switch to the Allianz Arena, with the two sides having agreed a fee over a move, whilst Mane himself has flown to Germany to complete the formalities. A transfer is thought to be in the region of just over £35m, whilst a three-year deal is also on the table.
Mane’s former Liverpool teammate Karius has been taken aback by the fact that Bayern have managed to seal a deal for Mane’s services and is excited at the opportunity to see the forward tackling the German top-flight. Speaking to Sky Germany, he said: “It would be a crazy transfer for Bayern because he’s one of the top players at Liverpool.
“If Bayern Munich manage to sign someone like him, then you can only congratulate them and the Bundesliga too. It would be another star in the league, so I would be very happy for the Bundesliga.”
Interestingly, Mane could potentially be reunited with Karius next season. The German goalkeeper has departed Merseyside after a rollercoaster six years with the club.
Following his arrival from Mainz 05, he became the Reds’ number one goalkeeper under Jurgen Klopp as he vied with Simon Mignolet for a place in the side. However, a series of errors cost him his place and he has been sent out on loan to Besiktas and Union Berlin since. He spent last season in the Liverpool reserves and will now depart on a free transfer with a return to Germany possible.

Meanwhile, Mane’s move to the Allianz Arena would bring to an end a highly successful six-year spell at Anfield having arrived from Southampton back in 2016. In that time, he has helped the club to win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup alongside a whole host of other trophies.
Pundit Andy Townsend has suggested that whilst Mane will head to Bayern with the ambitions of adding to his medal haul in Germany, it will not be as straightforward as he thinks in the Bundesliga despite the current champions’ seeming monopoly on the Bundesliga title.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "Sadio Mané won league and Champions League with Liverpool, and everything. He might've felt mission accomplished at Liverpool.
“He wanted another challenge and experience. The Bundesliga is far from a walk in the park even though Bayern are the strongest team. It’ll still be a challenge."
