CHANDIGARH: Leading intellectuals, writers and academics from across Punjab on Tuesday urged the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to take the lead in evolving a joint strategy along with other political parties for safeguarding the interests of the state, including that on the SYL canal.
A resolution to this effect was passed at a special four-hour interactive session that the scholars, writers and academics had with SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The resolution read that the political parties, especially the SAD – the panthic regional party – was duty-bound to lead the battle for the interests of the state. The participants in the session opposed the event-management approach to serious issues facing Punjab and the Punjabis.
They also opposed the attempts to cause divisions and confusion among the people of the state through divisive debates aimed at mutual mudslinging.
Those who took part in the interactive session included Prof Sucha Singh Gill, Prof Ranjit Singh Ghuman, Kehar Singh, Balkar Singh, Dr Pyare Lal Garg, Prof Raunki Ram, Dr Dharamvira Gandhi, Gurdev Singh Brar, Gurdarshan Singh Dhillon, Prof Manjit Singh, Dharminder Singh Ubha, Prem Singh Chandumajra, Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Bikram Singh Majithia, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Dr Daljit Singh Cheema and Virsa Singh Valtoha.
