Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Rohit Sharma to join Wankhede Stadium's 50th anniversary

NEW DELHI: On January 19, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Wankhede Stadium by inviting legendary Mumbai cricket players and former Indian team captains.

Fans can expect an entertaining evening as the activities begin on January 12 and culminate in a big main event on January 19.

To celebrate the historic significance of Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai icons and former Indian cricket leaders, such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravi Shastri, Ajinkya Rahane, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Diana Edulji, will come together. The stadium's significant contribution to the history of the sport will be honored during this occasion.

Mumbai's renowned men's and women's cricket players from both domestic and international competitions will also compete in the main event.

In addition to a stunning laser show, attendees may anticipate performances by well-known performers Avadhoot Gupte and Ajay-Atul.

Speaking on the occasion, MCA President Ajinkya Naik said, "As we mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic Wankhede Stadium, I warmly invite all cricket fans to be part of this momentous occasion. Our legendary heroes will join us in the celebrations, and together, we will pay tribute to the rich legacy of the Wankhede Stadium which is a pride of Mumbai. Let's make this celebration truly unforgettable."

On January 19, the Apex Council members and MCA office-bearers will release a coffee table book as part of the festivities. In addition, a commemorative postal stamp will be released to honor Wankhede Stadium's illustrious history.

On January 12, MCA officials and Consul General bureaucrats will play cricket as part of the celebratory week.

In honour of the dedication and contributions of Mumbai cricket's unsung heroes, on January 15 MCA will honour the members of the Mumbai team that participated in the inaugural first-class match at the Wankhede Stadium in 1974, as well as the groundskeepers of MCA's clubs and grounds. They will also host the Polly Umrigar Health Camp and a special lunch for them.
