Sabyasachi Mukherjee returned to New York Fashion Week on September 15 with his Spring/Summer 2027 collection, "Bengal Byzantine Broadway," nearly 18 years after his last New York show in 2009. The 72-look presentation opened with Christy Turlington in head-to-toe denim and explored American wardrobe staples through the Indian designer's distinctive approach to craftsmanship.
Rather than centering the collection on the elaborate occasionwear often associated with the Sabyasachi name, the runway placed denim, plaid shirts, tailored pieces and other familiar garments alongside embroidery, brocade, hand-painted silks and ornate jewelry. Vogue reported that Mukherjee described the clothes as Western clothing viewed through an Indian lens.
