Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet Is An ‘Ovulation Album’ & I Now Need A Menstrual Cycle Playlist

Sabrina Carpenter’s new album, Short N’ Sweet, has been making waves not just for its catchy tunes and scandalous Easter eggs, but also for her invention of ‘ovulation music’.

Seriously, who knew pop music could get so personal? Let’s unpack this cheeky label and see why it’s got everyone talking.

When did Sabrina Carpenter call her album an ‘ovulation album’?

Sabrina dropped Short N’ Sweet on 23 August and shortly after took to Instagram to share some behind-the-scenes piccies. Her caption had fans doing a double-take: “4 days of ovulation album”.

I mean, it’s not every day you hear an artist talk about their work in terms of menstrual cycles, but it is the only way I’ll be referring to music from now on.

Fans were instantly obsessed saying, “Ovulation phase is the best description of this album.”

PERIOD 👏🏽 (Image: @SabrinaCarpenter/Instagram)

Others have shown their appreciation for Sabrina, “You dropped this album while I was ovulating and I thank you.”

WTF is an ‘ovulation album’?

Now, you might be wondering, ‘What even is an ovulation album?’ Great question! For those of you who didn’t pay attention in P.E. your ovulation phase generally happens two weeks before you get your period. During this time your ovaries will release an egg. It is also a time when you may feel horny AF.

So therefore an ovulation album is a collection of songs that capture the fun, flirty energy we all feel during those few days when we’re most fertile. Ew I’m so sorry I grossed myself out with that one.

Sabrina Carpenter’s songs with their upbeat rhythms and spicy lyrics like, “He pins you down on the carpet, makes paintings with his tongue,” totally fit the bill.

Best comment hands down. (Image: @SabrinaCarpenter/Instagram)

Eager Spotify users have made hyper-specific playlists to get you in the ovulation week mood *wink, wink*. Songs include, “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande, “Hands To Myself” by Selena Gomez, “Promiscuous” by Nelly Furtado and basically the whole of Taylor Swift‘s Reputation album — obviously.

Ya’ll are spicyyyy. (Image: Spotify)

When I asked around the office for people’s ovulation album recommendations, one honest colleague told me that her friend was in her ovulation phase and has been listening to a lot of true crime podcasts. Unsure what that means, but I would never yuck anybody’s yum!

Albums I Think Would Be Perfect for Every Phase of Your Cycle

Because this has become my entire personality, let’s now consider what other albums could fit into the various phases of the menstrual cycle:

Asking the important questions. (Image: @SabrinaCarpenter/Instagram)
  • Menstrual PhaseFolklore by Taylor Swift – Perfect for introspection (spiraling) and cosy vibes while you steal your housemates chocolate and curl up with a hot water bottle.
  • Follicular PhaseRENAISSANCE by Beyoncé – The dance beats are ideal for those days when you’re ready to conquer the world and stomp on everyone.
  • Ovulation PhaseShort N’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter – She honestly made the perfect album to get flirty and fun with some cheeky pop.
  • Luteal PhaseAnti by Rihanna – The perfect mix of empowerment and vulnerability for when you’re feeling all the feels (also spiraling).

Okay I’m gonna go make playlists for every phase of my menstrual cycle now!
