Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a restraining order against a man who she alleges has been stalking her and tried to break into her home.
The singer, 27, filed a temporary restraining order against William Applegate, 31, in Los Angeles that was granted Monday after she described at least four incidents where Applegate allegedly appeared uninvited at her home in recent weeks.
In one “deeply alarming” incident that occurred May 23, Applegate was captured on Carpenter’s home security camera going up to her front door and trying to force it open, she wrote in the filing.
The request alleges that when a security guard confronted him and asked him to leave, Applegate said he knew Carpenter and that she had been expecting him, which Carpenter said was “outrageous and entirely false.”
He then struck the security guard and continued to refuse to leave until police arrived and arrested him on suspicion of trespassing, which is a misdemeanor.
The “Espresso” singer alleged that Applegate returned to the neighborhood less than a day later and loitered outside her home.
He allegedly then came back again the day after that and parked outside her house in his Toyota Prius, “conducting what can only be described as deliberate surveillance of my movements and my home,” Carpenter’s filing said. She alleged that he reclined his seat in his car to hide from onlookers and then left once police came to the scene.
After that, the singer’s security team determined that Applegate had allegedly been parking in the neighborhood and been getting “progressively closer” to her house since April 20.
Carpenter said in the court document filed Friday: “I have never met him or communicated with him in any way. I have no desire to meet him or communicate with him.”
She wrote in her statement to the court: “This is not the behavior of someone who stumbled upon my property by accident. This is intentional stalking and surveillance directed at me and my residence.”
The court prohibits Applegate from being within 100 yards of Carpenter, her sister Sarah Carpenter, or Sarah’s partner, who also live in the Hollywood Hills home. He is also ordered to stay at least 100 yards from Carpenter’s home, her car and her workplace.
“His delusional insistence that he knows me and was expected by me is indicative of a dangerous, delusional, and irrational fixation on me,” Carpenter wrote.
Representatives for Carpenter did not immediately return The Independent’s request for comment. It is unclear if Applegate has a lawyer. A court hearing to determine whether police will file charges against him is scheduled for June 18.
