KOTTAYAM: The Supreme Court order declaring a 1km eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) around protected forests has created uncertainty over development projects in Sabarimala, especially the development of Nilackal as a base camp of the Sabarimala temple, which comes under the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB).
Since there is a lack of clarity regarding the judgment, TDB authorities are waiting to get a copy of the judgment to seek legal advice. Currently, several development projects are progressing in Sabarimala, Pamba and Nilackal, which are part of Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR). Major works include construction of step and ramp at Neelimala and other construction projects at Nilackal.
