Sabalenka And Pegula To Face Off In U.S. Open Final

Jessica Pegula celebrates in tennis match

The U.S. Open women’s singles final is set to take place on Saturday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, featuring a showdown between Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula. Sabalenka, the second seed, will be vying for her second consecutive U.S. Open final appearance after falling short to Coco Gauff last year. Pegula, a crowd favorite, will be making her debut in a Grand Slam final.

Sabalenka's impressive performance has seen her reach all four hard-court Grand Slam finals in the past two seasons, currently riding an 11-match win streak. She has the opportunity to become the first woman since 2016 to clinch both hard-court Grand Slam titles in the same year. Pegula, at 30 years old, is the oldest American woman in the Open Era to reach her first Grand Slam final.

The final will mark the eighth meeting between Sabalenka and Pegula, with Sabalenka holding a 5-2 advantage in their head-to-head matchups. Notably, Sabalenka emerged victorious in their recent encounter at the Cincinnati Open final. Pegula, however, managed to secure wins over Sabalenka in the past, including at the WTA Finals in 2023 and the Cincinnati Open in 2020.

Both players have displayed remarkable form throughout the tournament, with Sabalenka dropping just one set on her path to the final and Pegula causing a major upset by defeating world no. 1 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals. The final is scheduled for 4 pm ET and can be watched on ESPN/ESPN Deportes.

By reaching the final, Sabalenka and Pegula have guaranteed themselves a prize of $1,800,000, with the winner set to take home $3,600,000. The match promises to be a thrilling encounter between two formidable competitors vying for the prestigious U.S. Open title.
