The Saatva and Helix are both two of the best hybrid mattresses, but you’ll never need to pay MSRP for either model. Still, even with the biggest discounts, these are still higher-end purchases, although the comfort and support levels they give are worth the outlay. Expect to find 12-15% off the Saatva Classic Plush at all times, with slightly more generous discounts around major sales events.

Right now, our exclusive sale access means the Saatva Classic has $400 off all sizes of the mattress, plus the MSRP of the bed has dropped as well. This means you can pick up a queen for $1,695 (last month it was priced at $1,795). We’re expecting prices to rise again after Memorial Day, so this is the best Saatva mattress sales offer you can expect to see for some time. The Saatva also comes with generous extras – you’ll get a 365-night trial, lifetime warranty and white glove delivery (although returns cost $99).

Helix also has evergreen sales on its mattresses, with Helix mattress sales running continuously. There’s usually 20-25% off mattresses, but today's Memorial Day Helix has knocked 30% off its Luxe and Elite mattresses, as well as including two free pillows with every purchase. This means you can pick up a queen for $1661.66 by entering the code MEMDAY30 at checkout. There is the option to pay for white glove service and returns are free.

Saatva Classic Plush vs Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress: Materials & Design

  • The Saatva Classic comes in two heights – 11.5” and 14.5”
  • The Helix Midnight Luxe is 13.5” high
  • Both mattresses are hybrids and come with plush pillow tops for comfort

The Saatva Classic is a hybrid innerspring mattress, made from a combination of foams and coils. Up top is a 3” thick Euro pillow top of the Saatva Classic, made with organic cotton and zoned quilting in the middle for extra lumbar support. The pillow top has been treated with an antimicrobial fabric treatment to help it stay fresh and is designed to cushion your body.

Underneath this, in the center third of the mattress, you’ll find a CertiPUR-US certified memory foam layer that’s specifically geared towards healthy spinal alignment. Next up, a layer of individually wrapped 14.5-gauge recycled steel coils that are designed to contour to your body – these are firmer in the center third to support the lumbar region.

These sit on top of a support base made up of 13-gauge tempered steel support coils. This is all wrapped up in a foam encasement around the perimeter to stabilize the whole mattress. The different heights are offered by different height springs.

The Helix comes with a breathable, hypoallergenic Tencel cover, with the option to upgrade to a GlacioTex cover for extra cooling. You’ll see this fabric in many of our best cooling mattresses, with it being well regarded for its ability to help keep sleepers cool.

Beneath the Tencel cover is a premium quilted pillow top that’s been sewn into the top of the mattress for a plush and soft feel. Underneath this is a layer of responsive polyfoam, followed by a layer of copper gel memory foam, both designed to contour to your body and provide support. Next up is a transition layer of memory foam, which sits on a layer of individually wrapped coils. These are firmer around the lumbar and edges of the mattress. Finally, there’s a dense foam base layer for support.

Saatva Classic Plush vs Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress: Comfort & Support

  • The Saatva Classic Plush is rated 3/10 for firmness
  • The Helix Midnight Luxe is rated 6/10
  • Both mattresses offer excellent lumbar support

The Saatva Classic is available in three firmness ratings, but we’re focusing on the Plush, which is specifically aimed at side sleepers. In our Saatva Classic mattress review, we tested the Luxury Firm version of the mattress (rated at 5-7/10), which we also felt could be suitable for average weight side sleepers. There’s also a Firm version (rated at 8/10), which heavier side sleepers may find more suitable. In short, there’s a Saatva for every body type and sleeping position.

This isn’t a bed that you sink into, even with the Plush version. Rather, you’ll lie on top of it, with the extra lumbar support and pillow top providing the cushioning comfort side sleepers need to stop pressure points building up. Because of its more traditional innerspring feel, we also think the Plush version is suitable for back sleepers and we rate the Saatva Classic as one of the best mattresses for back pain

The cushioned pillow top feels luxurious and provides enough body contouring to help avoid pressure points building up at the shoulders and hips. Overall, the Saatva Classic Plush offers excellent pressure relief and keeps the spine aligned in all sleeping positions.

The Helix Midnight Luxe is specifically designed for side sleepers, with the upper memory foam layer providing plenty of deep pressure relief around the hips and shoulders. But in our Helix Midnight Luxe mattress review, we also found that the medium firm mattress is supportive enough for back sleepers as well.

The plush pillow top delivers outstanding pressure relief for side sleepers, cushioning the shoulders and hips to provide plenty of contouring comfort. However, this isn’t a soft mattress, with the coils and copper-infused memory foam both working in tandem to keep the spine aligned, and to provide enhanced lumbar support. Despite this extra support, heavier bodies and stomach sleepers are unlikely to find this mattress supportive enough, but Helix make an entire range of mattresses specifically designed to fit different sleeping styles.

Saatva Classic Plush vs Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress: Temperature Regulation

  • The Saatva has a breathable cover double layer of coils for added air circulation
  • The Helix also has a breathable cover, coils and copper-infused foam for cooling
  • You can upgrade to a GlacioTex cooling cover with the Helix

During testing none of our testers ever felt hot or uncomfortable on the Saatva Classic. The temperature remained neutral throughout the night. This is mainly down to the small amount of foam used in the Saatva (foams can be notorious for trapping body heat). Well-spaced coils also help to promote airflow, whilst the cover is made from breathable cotton.

The Helix Midnight Luxe also has a breathable Tencel cover, along with coils to promote airflow and a layer of copper-infused foam (copper helps to draw heat away from the body). However, if you are a particularly hot sleeper, we’d recommend upgrading to the GlacioTex cover, which will wick away any heat or moisture while you sleep, helping you to stay cool overnight.
