South Australia will bat first after winning the toss against Victoria in Will Pucovski's comeback to Sheffield Shield cricket.
Pucovski, after suffering a series of concussions, returns to first-class action for the first time since January last year in the Adelaide Oval fixture starting Wednesday.
The 24-year-old, whose last elite game was his Test debut against India in January last year, will partner Test discard Marcus Harris at the top of Victoria's batting order.
But the pair will have to wait for their turn at the crease after SA captain Travis Head won the toss and elected to bat.
Head has opted out of Australia's Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka starting on Friday, preferring to get more red-ball cricket before the looming Test tour of Pakistan.
