A near $37 million investment in new ambulances will help address South Australia's ramping crisis, Premier Peter Malinauskas says.
The spending will allow for the replacement of 184 existing ambulances that have reached the end of their service life and for the purchase of 36 new vehicles.
The first of the new vehicles are expected to be on road in July this year, as the first of a number of new ambulance crews come on board.
The government plans to employ 99 more ambulance officers by the middle of 2023 and 350 across its first term of government.
"This is the biggest order of a new ambulance fleet that South Australia has ever seen and will contribute to our hardworking ambos delivering life-saving patient outcomes," Mr Malinauskas said.
SA Ambulance Service CEO Rob Elliott said the new vehicles would provide a fantastic boost to its operations.
"Our ambulance crews respond to 300,000-plus incidents each year, travelling more than 13 million kilometres," he said.
"This investment is equipping them to get to emergencies, provide great care and if needed, safe transport."
