S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope revealed as first major Heart of Chornobyl expansion

GSC Game World has unveiled S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope, the first major expansion for Heart of Chornobyl. Release is planned for this Summer, though the exact date hasn’t been revealed yet.

The DLC was shown during the Xbox Partner Preview, and it’s going to be a major addition to the game’s story. According to the reveal, Cost of Hope will add a new storyline spanning dozens of hours, two new regions, fresh weapons, new anomalies, and expanded interaction dynamics inside the Zone, possibly tying into the A-Life system that simulates the world.

The DLC will be available on all the platforms the base game is on, but specifically for Xbox, both the base game and the DLC will also support the Xbox Play Anywhere Feature.

The story centers on one of the oldest ideological dividing lines in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. history: Duty versus Freedom. GSC says that the expansion is a new chapter in a conflict long familiar to the series’ fans, with the two factions once again pulled toward open confrontation despite a fragile peace held together by the Zone Brotherhood. Duty still sees the Zone as a threat that should be destroyed before it spreads further, while Freedom remains committed to exploring it and pushing deeper into its secrets.

Cost of Hope begins during the main campaign, after players discover a mysterious artifact. From there, the DLC’s events are triggered through the player’s PDA, kicking off a new arc shaped by player decisions.

The studio also says the game is effectively becoming a three-part project, mirroring the original trilogy. The base Heart of Chornobyl is the first chapter, Cost of Hope is the second, and another story DLC will complete what GSC calls this new trilogy.

There is still no exact release date beyond summer 2026, and pricing was also not announced alongside the reveal.
