S Club 7's Jo O'Meara in hospital for emergency back surgery as she cancels work

S Club 7's Jo O'Meara has announced she is in hospital for emergency back surgery to remove a disc after being left in "horrendous pain" when an old injury flared up.

The singer, 43, who injured her back in 2002, took to Twitter on Wednesday to tell her fans she was having to pull out of her work commitments to undergo the procedure.

Sharing a photo of herself in her hospital gown, Jo wrote: "I am so sorry to announce, that I will not be able to attend @PrideFife on Saturday. I have had some health issues with my back

"And it has resulted in me needing surgery to remove a disc, I will be going in to hospital tomorrow I am truly sorry to you all."

Fans took to the comment section to send Jo their well-wishes.

One wrote: "I really hope all goes well X take care you fabulous beautiful lady", while another added: "Hope surgery goes well Jo. Heal up soon."

A third follower chimed: "Get well soon Jo."

Jo went to hospital seven days ago, revealing her back gave in on her during rehearsals for an upcoming gig and was forced to seek medical attention.

The singer shared her health woes with her fans as she posted a photo of herself from her hospital bed.

In the caption, Jo revealed that after 20 years of barely any issues with her back – having initially injured it in 2022 – she had suffered a blow.

Jo explained to her 38.2k followers: "So after almost 20 years pain free my back decided it was time to flake out on me again.

"The pain has been absolutely horrendous! 4 discs bulging, and a bad case of sciatica, I yesterday went for spinal blockers at the amazing @thelondonclinichospital to try and get things moving again!

"It will not stop me doing my shows, and I will not be beaten by it!"

However, Jo insisted she will still be performing this weekend as she's due to appear to Gloucester Pride.

She continued: "So I look forward to seeing you all at Gloucester Pride this weekend where I will be headlining, And the following week I will be Headlining at Fife pride !

"Make sure to come and say hello ! I would like to give a huge shout out to my unbelievable Management team @sagamusictv for getting me in so quickly to hospital."

Jo kept optimistic as she added: "This back of mine will not stop me doing what I love so I shall see you there!!"

Jo first injured her back in 2002 while filming S Club 7's movie Seeing Double, which left her struggling to move.

Speaking about the injury with The Sun last year, Jo recalled: "That was a really tough time for me. On the tour I was just plonked in different parts of the stage to sing and it was very frustrating.

"Putting on a lot of weight at that time didn’t help because I felt really bad about myself. It was a horrible time."
