Rylan Clark reveals he suffered heart failure twice amid marriage breakdown last year

Rylan Clark has revealed that he suffered heart failure on two occasions last year, with such health struggles having been amid the breakdown of his marriage to Dan Neal.

The presenter, 33, has been open about the impact that separating from his husband, 43, had on his mental health and recently said that his body "completely shut down".

The Celebrity Big Brother alum - who took some time off work amid the marital breakdown - has now further discussed the state of his physical health around that period of his life.

He revealed that he suffered heart failure twice, explaining at an event recently: "Twice last year I ended up in the back of an ambulance because my heart failed."

He spoke about his health whilst celebrating the launch of his new book Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future at the Royal Festival Hall in London, as reported by the Sun.

Speaking at his An Evening With Rylan this week, he said a normal resting heart rate would range from around 60 to 120 beats per minute (bpm) but that his was 248 bpm.

Rylan - who rose to fame on the X Factor in 2012 - recalled that his heart stopped and said that he was administered an injection in hospital in a bid by medics to "restart" it.

Discussing the experience, he said: "I knew it wasn't right. It turned out that my heart had to be restarted." He recalled lying in resus with pads and wires attached to his body.

Rylan said he later asked what the pads were for and was told they would have been used if he hadn't taken a breath as medics would have had to "restart [him] electrically."

According to Metro, he further explained at the event: "I think I was so frightened of being alone that I think that's what contributed to my downfall and my spiral that I was in."

The outlet reports that Rylan said he has since learnt to be comfortable on his own and he described that as a "really important lesson" to learn whilst in his early thirties.

His new memoir Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future will be released on September 29. It features stories from his life and career, chronicling his decade in the spotlight.
