As the New Year begins, lots of us are having a look at holiday destinations and getting ready to book time off work in search of some sun and relaxation.
However, when flying to different locations across the globe, there are strict rules in place for hand luggage, like weight and size. Edinburgh Live reported that most airlines all have their own requirements when it comes to bringing a bag on the aircraft.
Some will refuse oversized bags outright, while others will allow you to bring a bigger bag for an additional fee. But, what are the different rules for all the airlines available?

Here is a handy guide on hand luggage specific rules for various different airlines, including TUI and British Airways.
Ryanair
Ryanair permit their customers to bring a small personal bag onboard, at the maximum dimensions of 40 x 20 x 25 cm. It must also fit under the seat in front of you.
Oversized luggage will be refused, or you can pay the hefty fee of £69.99 to check it in as a hold bag. This fee is subject to VAT on domestic flights at applicable government rates.
If you are unsure whether your bag is the correct size, check it at the Bag Drop desk before going through security.
Jet2
Jet2 allows passengers to carry on board one piece of hand luggage free of charge, as long as it weighs no more than 10kg. Maximum dimensions for the bag, including wheels and handles, are 56cm x 45cm x 25 cm.
If it exceeds the limits, your bag will have to be checked into the aircraft hold. You can also bring a small, personal item on board (such as a handbag, laptop bag or airport purchase), as long as it is placed underneath the seat in front of you.
You can read more information about baggage allowances for Jet2 on their website.
easyJet
Customers of easyJet are allowed one bag per person on board for free. The bag must be within the requirements of 45 x 36 x 20 cm, including handles or wheels - and has to fit under the seat in front.
The luggage can weight up to 15kg, but easyJet does ask that you’re able to lift and carry it yourself.
Bags larger than this or any additional bags will be placed in the hold and incur the airport bag fee of £39.99.
TUI
For TUI Airways customers, people are permitted one piece of onboard luggage for free, as long as it weighs under 10kg.
The maximum dimensions of your hand luggage can be 55x40x20 cm.
You must also be able to lift the bag into the overhead storage by yourself. Things like laptops, handbags and items bought at the airport must fit within your one piece of hand luggage.
British Airways
British Airways customers can bring one personal bag, and another small item - like something from duty-free - on board for free.
The hand luggage must be smaller than 56 x 45 x 25 cm, and the small item must not exceed 40 x 30 x 15 cm.
